Blogging is worn out
Recently, I’ve become a little frustrated with the format of blogs. I can spend a good chunk of time writing a reasonably detailed book review, only to have it fall off the bottom of the page by the end of the week.
The format only draws readers to the latest posted items, which could be totally frivolous. For all I know, some causual visitor may be very interested by some of my better posts, but will never find them for lack of time.
Also, I frequently just want to point out an interesting article I’ve found without having to log in and write some accompanying witticism.
So, in the next few weeks (when I have all of that free time), I’m going to try out a few ideas and build some tools. Keep reading…
Loosing a smidge of character
The Washington Post reports that tenants of the Woodward Building will be forced out so the building can be renovated into condos. I worked on a small project for one of the organizations based in this building. It has a very “comfortable old shoe” feel. Very ornate, despite being worn in. As you walk though it, you wonder about the big deals made there in years past. It seems like the kind of place that would stand forever, although now we know otherwise. I guess we’ll end up with a Starbucks, a Potbelly Sandwich works, and some other inconsequential stores. ;( …
Anyone who’s traveled from the East through Tulsa…
Will recognize this.
The Bored-Again Christian Podcast
In an attempt to give Christian music yet another shot, I’ve subscribed to the Bored Again Christian podcast, which bills itself as “Christian music for people who hate Christian music.” We’ll just have to see.

Don’t order guacamole at Chipotle
For anyone going to Chipotle, heed this warning: don’t get the guacamole. I came to the end of the line where my burrito was being prepared and was offered some of the green stuff. I answered “just a little.” Somehow this was interpreted as “none at all,” so I clarified that I did indeed want it. About a cup of avocado glop was promptly dumped upon the tortilla. Evidently, this is an extra charge item (should have read the menu more carefully), so they load it on up. So don’t order it, for the sake of your arteries.
Clarification: I don’t mind paying extra for guacamole. The fact that they charge extra is the only reason I could imagine that they would use so much.

Baton Rouge
Real Estate Becomes Hot Property. After years of generally stagnant
development, Baton Rouge may change very rapidly. When I talk to my
Grandma, she’ll bring up the "white flight" occurring in the area.
She’ll describe how everyone is moving to Gonzales and Denham Springs.
Now, with a regional housing shortage, Baton Rouge’s older
neighborhoods may be suddenly redefined by influxes of evacuees. At the
moment, we’re seeing a lot of media coverage of the race tensions
surrounding rescue efforts (or lack thereof), but it may not be long before this
becomes concerns over gentrification. I just hope my friend Mike can find some nearby housing so he can continue medical school.
